Nourishing Biodiversity: how art can educate towards food sustainability
Over 80 children from the Primary School on via Bergognone, in Milan, participated in Nourishing Biodiversity, a project by the University of Pavia that combines art, nutrition and awareness on environmental themes, staged on Tuesday, November 18. The initiative transformed the school courtyard into a creative laboratory, where the youngest became artists and ambassadors of urban food biodiversity for a day, thanks to the concept Colors tell stories.
Discovering the value of diversity
The project, conceived by Cristina Ciusa, expert in ethical communication and biodiversity at the Laboratory of Dietetics and Clinical Nutrition of the University of Pavia, invites children to explore biodiversity through the free gesture of color. Working with primary colors and creating new shades, the young participants discover, in a simple and intuitive way, the value of diversity, in art as in nutrition. A large 8-meter canvas, set up among the trees in the courtyard, brought to life a site-specific experience that combines play, imagination and nature.
The concept, supported by Prof. Hellas Cena within the National Biodiversity Future Center (NBFC), aims to develop new awareness in younger generations: understanding the link between food, health and environment, and bringing these values into families and the community. In an urban context like Milan, educating about biodiversity means promoting more sustainable lifestyles and forming citizens capable of responsible food choices.
Art as a universal language
The Primary School on via Bergognone has thus become the first urban laboratory of a replicable educational model. Thanks to the involvement of partners such as Chiara Ferraboschi and Massimo Pellegrini, Nourishing Biodiversity shows how art can break down boundaries and become a universal language to build a future more attentive to the health of the planet and people.
As MiRò, we handled the press office activities related to the project, distributing the Save the Date for the event, informing journalists about the initiative, proceeding with the press release launch and follow-up calls to stimulate coverage. Additionally, we worked on Digital PR, Social Media Management and content creation for Social platforms and digital assets. Finally, we managed and coordinated the organizational phases of the event.
